Self-sustaining gear.-Relates to gear comprising an internally-threaded boss d connected to a pinion a which is free to turn through a, small distance on the shaft e, the endwise movement of the boss d applying brake pads h, j to the brake wheel i. The boss d is connected with the brake member by a spring plate or resilient web f which transmits torque but allows endwise movement so as to prevent vibration and noise. The second brake member k may be connected with a similar web f in addition to or in place of the arrangement shown.
