Abstract

187,962. Serex, C. Oct. 26, 1921, [Convention date]. Band or coil.-Two band brakes are arranged to act on the same wheel of a motor vehicle, one of the bands being operated by a lever, while the free end of the other band is connected to the first band and operated bv it without further movement of the lever. The ends 4, 7 of the first band 2 are joined by members 8, 9, the member 9 having a groove engaged by the end 12 of an operating lever 13 pivoted at 14. One end of the ether band 5 is secured to the first band at 4 and the other end of the band 5 is secured to a fixed pin 11. A releasing-spring 10 may be arranged between the ends 4, 7. In operation, when the first band is applied it moves slightly with the wheel, this movement applying the other band. In the event of the wheel skidding the brakes tend to come off. The band 2 is shown between two elements of the band 5. but this arrangement may be modified. The bands may act on drums of different diameter, or one may act on the outside of the drum, or both may be placed sice by side. The bands have. linings 3, 6. The arrangement is stated to be particularly applicable to the wheels of a motor vehicle having the brake control mechanism described in Specification 186,913.
