359,266. Internal-expanding brakes. HENRY, T. L., 22, Vivian Road, Sketty, Swansea, TRESEDER, W. L. and TRESEDER, F. M., Ashdene, Creigiau, near Cardiff. Nov. 27, 1930, No. 35761. [Class 103 (i).] In vehicles having two or more independent expanding bands or sets of shoes lying side by side in a common brake drum q, a flexible band h embracing all the expanding members, is expanded as a whole by each of the bands or sets of shoes. In one form, two pairs of brake shoes a, a, b, b are mounted on a pivot a<1> in the brake anchor plate a<11> and are expended by cams c, d secured on concentric shafts c<1>, d<1> respectively operated by a pedal and hand-lever. The shoes are provided with projecting pieces f, g engaging recesses f<1>. g<1> on the adjacent shoes, the recesses being of sufficient depth to enable either pair of shoes to be fully expanded without fouling the overlapping shoes. The band h, which may be divided longitudinally and transversely into a number of parts, is positioned by transverse members k riveted or welded to the band and engaging transverse slots m in the shoes, the ends of the .members k being bent at o to overlap the shoes, in order to prevent lateral movement of the band h.
