Energy absorbing elements.- To eliminate the noise produced by brake drums of pressed or drawn sheet metal when the brakes are applied, the rim of the drum is provided with a band. As shown in Fig. 2, the band 4 is continuous and is secured to the rim of the drum 1 by spot welding but it may instead be split and be secured to the drum by a bolt passed through its ends.
