Abstract

468,269. Making rims for wheels. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., SHARP, G. E., and WHALE, G. H. April 28, 1936, No. 12029. [Class 83 (ii)] A wheel rim is formed from a metal strip which is subjected to successive rolling operations to produce a form such as one shown in full or dotted lines in Fig. 6, the sides of the projecting portion 5 then being pressed together to form a flange 5, Fig. 7. Portions 11, Fig. 8, of the flange may be cut away to leave lugs 9 which are drilled and countersunk or otherwise formed at 10 to provide means for securing the rim to a disc, brake drum, or other wheel body. The flanges may be welded together at the cut-away portions and at the junction 8.
