380,277. Vehicle wheels and brake drums. MICHELIN ET CIE, Clermont Ferrand, Puy de Dome, France. Oct. 20, 1931, No. 29162. Convention date, April 16. [Classes 103 (i) and 144 (i).] In brake drums that are constructed as a single unit with the wheel hub or are secured directly thereto as by welding and are formed by operations that include rolling and pressing, the disc portion of the drum has an increased thickness at the parts 4, 6 adjacent the hub A and the cylindrical part C, that are subject to the greatest stresses, relative to the intermediate part 5. According to Fig. 1, the wheel hub is formed by pressing or forging operations to provide a rib 1, shown in dotted lines, the rib is rolled out to form a nave 2 and the cylindrical part C is then formed by a pressing or stamping operation. The drum may instead be welded directly to or to a flange on the hub. The flange 8 of the drum may be tapered.
