Abstract
473,079. Vehicle wheels. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., GOODYEAR, C. E., and SHARP, G. E. April 23, 1936, No. 11565. [Class 144 (ii)] [Also in Group XXII] Rims for vehicle wheels comprise a strip 1 which is bent to circular form and welded at the ends 8, and which is rolled to produce a well base 6 and tyre seating and retaining surfaces 14, 7, and has a series of projections 4 formed therein by drawing operations. The closed ends of the projections 4 are flattened or rendered concave to engage the surface of a disc, brake drum, or the like 9, to which they are secured detachably or by welding or riveting. Bolt holes 13 may be provided in the ring 9 to secure it to a brake drum or hub. Alternatively, the ring 9 is dispensed with, and the portions 4 are flattened to form securing lugs 15, Figs. 9 and 10, of double thickness. The inner tube of the tyre may be supported on a band of rubber, rubberized fabric, or of metal on the base of the well and bridging the hollow portions 4. Alternatively, the hollow portions may be filled with rubber or other substance.
