Energy-absorbing elements.-To prevent radiation of heat from the brake-drum 17 to the wheelrim, 13, a deflector is fitted between these parts and preferably clear of both. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the deflector comprises plain metal bands 25 enclosing asbestos &c. 26. In the modification shown in Fig. 3, the edges of the bands 25 are not joined and the non-conducting material 27 is of corrugated form leaving airpockets 28. In a further modification, a plain band of non-conducting material .is fitted between corrugated metal bands.
