Abstract

326,276. Walker, E., and Wolstenholme, H. Dec. 29, 1928. Drawings to Specification. Energy-absorbing elements.-A brake drum is provided with a liner of an alloy steel adapted to become hardened in use due to the heat of braking and the cooling by air on the disengagement of the brake shoe. The alloy steel comprises 7 per cent chromium, 1.2 per cent carbon, 1 per cent chromium, 4 per cen manganese and the balance iron. The liner may be riveted or welded to the drum, which may be recessed to receive the liner.
