Blocks and shoes acting on drums. - the brake elements in a brake of the internal expanding type comprise two levers b<1>,b<2> pivoted at f, two brake shoes a, a<1> being pivoted on each lever. The shoes a<1> may be split longitudinally and joined by facing strips, and may be pivoted by means of pins integral with the lever b<1> and joined at their adjacent ends by a member j. In the modification shown, the webs and bosses of the shoes are contained between duplicated side members of the levers. Springs h engaging in notches in the webs of the shoes and bearing on the undersides of bosses on the levers take up back-lash in the pivots. The trailing ends of the shoes may be extended to counteract turning movement about the pivots.
