Vibration-dampers of the type in which a oneway action is obtained from an expanding segment engaging a drum are constructed with an operating arm 3 rigid with the central member 2 and engaging a recess in a split ring 5 forming the brake segment. The drum 6 may be fixed to the frame of a vehicle and the central member 2 is then connected to the axle by a ball joint and link. The radial thickness of the brake segment 5 may decrease from the operated end to the free end and braking material 7 may be provided. In a modification, the central member is fixed and the drum moves.
