Abstract

565,331. Aircraft tail wheels. FAIREY AVIATION CO., Ltd., CHAPLIN, H. E., and FORSTER, F. W. June 17, 1941, No. 7649. [Class 4] To prevent undue oscillation of a swivelling tail wheel, particularly when heavily loaded, the spindle c of the oleo leg c, d is acted upon by a brake applied by jointed links m, pq which connect the brake member to the fixed part d of the oleo leg so that the braking pressure is increased as the parts c, d telescope under load. For this purpose the link m is fixed to a spindle h, Fig. 3, having a bearing in a brake blockf, the ends of the spindle having eccentrics k engaging the ends of a brake band j. As the angle between the jointed links decreases, the block f and band are tightened on a drum e fixed to the spindle c. The link pq can telescope against the action of an enclosed spring should further telescoping movement of the spindle c take place after the brake is fully applied.
