Abstract

787,470. Aircraft brakes. DOWTY EQUIPMENT Ltd. May 31, 1956 [March 1, 1955], No. 2984/55. Class 103 (1). [Also in Group XXXIII] In an aircraft braking system of the type described in Specification 728,176, it has been found that if too great a pressure is exerted on the friction shoe 17, the force of contact of the wheels with the runway may be reduced to such an extent that it may be difficult to maintain directional control of the aircraft on landing. To avoid this condition the load exerted on the wheels is made to operate, through contraction of the strut 8, 9 and the deflection of torque links 11, 12 and link members 42, 43, a potentiometer 41, shown also in the circuit of Fig. 2. A further similar potentiometer 47 is operated in accordance with the pressure exerted by the pilot on his brake pedal. Thus according to the relation between the load carried by the strut 8, 9 and the pilot's pedal pressure, a contact 63 of a relay B will be moved to make operative either a contact 52 or a contact 56 to supply a relay A. Specification 694,059, [Group XXIX], also is referred to.
