Abstract

811,300. Aircraft wheel brakes. DUNLOP RUBBER CO. Ltd. May 11, 1956 [June 1, 1955], No. 15674/55. Class 4. An aircraft fluid pressure operated braking system comprises an angularly movable rudder bar, mechanism connected to a source of pressure fluid and operable differentially to vary the volume of pressure-fluid flowing to port and starboard brakes respectively, in accordance with the degree of angular movement of the rudder bar, and means on the rudder bar for controlling the flow of pressure fluid through the mechanism to the brakes. In Fig. 1, the rudder bar 1 is secured at 2 to a vertical spindle 3, and has at each end a foot rest 14 Fig. 2, to which is secured a plate 16a supporting bracket 22. The rest 14 is apertured to receive a foot piston 17 sliding in plate 16a and biased by a spring 18. Depression of the piston 17 rocks a lever 21 pivoted to bracket 22 and pulls on a cable 24. The cables from each end of the rudder bar are joined at a junction member 25, Fig. 1, connected by a cable 26 to a valve mechanism 9, so that operation of either or both pistons 17 pulls cable 26, to increase the pressure in the port and starboard brakes equally. An arm 5 on spindle 3 is connected by link 7 to an arm 8 on the valve mechanism 9, operation of which varies the pressure of the two brakes differentially. Specification 720,178 is referred to.
