Abstract
559,817. Aircraft wheel brakes. PRATT, J. H., and GIRLING, A. H. G. Sept. 1, 1942, No. 12310. [Class 4] The wheel brakes on the two sides of an aircraft are applied by cables 8a, 8b connected to two arms of a three-armed lever 7 movable by a hand lever 11, the lever 7 being pivoted on the shorter arm of a bell crank lever 5 pivoted to the airframe and movable by the rudder bar to increase the braking pressure on one side of the aircraft and decrease it on the other for steering the aircraft on the ground. A dual control is shown, the instructor's lever 11 having a two-armed lever 10 pivoted to it, one end of. the lever 10 being connected to the lever 7 by a link 9 and the other end to a pupil's brake lever 13 by a link 12. The brakes can be applied by either lever but-the instructor can override the pupil's application of the brakes by moving a stop 14a on the locking quadrant 14 of the lever 11. A lost motion connection is provided between the link 9 and lever 7. The two rudder bars 2, 3 are connected by a rod 4.
