473,768. Aircraft alighting gear. DOWTY, G. H. May 7, 1936, No. 12955. [Class 4] An aircraft undercarriage includes a landing wheel mounting formed as a unit comprising a pivotally deformable frame in which provision is made for variation at choice of the ratio between vertical wheel travel under landing load and deflection of a shock-absorber resisting deformation of the frame. In one form, a landing-wheel 1 is carried by a lever 3 pivoted respectively at one or other of positions 4A, 10A to a shock-absorber 5 and a link 9 connected by an adjustable clip 7 to the shockabsorber. In a modification the shock absorber replaces the link 9. The wheel may be carried by a bell-crank lever selectively pivoted to a strut, a shock-absorber being interposed between the free arm of the lever and the strut. The shock-absorber may be interposed between the pivotal junction of two links and a strut, the links being pivoted to the strut and to a wheel-carrying lever. In a further form, Fig. 5, a further shock-absorbing element 27 is connected between toggle links 3, 22, 25, 24 arranged as shown and pivoted to a shock-absorber 6. In a further form, the invention is applied to an internallysprung landing-wheel similar to that described in Specification 473,756.
