5035. Edlund, E. G. Feb. 26. Actuated by driving - mechanism disengagers ; applied by running axle; band.-In a device for declutching and braking shafting, the clutch member, when disengaged, effects the rotation of a loosely-mounted eccentric which actuates the brake lever. In the form shown a, clutch member on the driving-shaft 6 may be held in engagement with a brake drum 2 on the driven shaft 1 by a catch 14, 15, but when the catch is released, the clutch 7 is disengaged by a spring 10 and engages at its other side an eccentric 12, the rotation of which operates an arm 13 on a sleeve 5 formed with another arm 4 connected to the ends of a band brake 3, Fig. 2, acting on the drum 2. The eccentric 12 also has frictional engagement with a loose pulley 16 to which is secured a band 17, Fig. 3, connected by a spring 18 to another arm 19 on the sleeve 5, so that the rotation of the eccentric extends the spring, which then serves to release the brake. A brake block may be used instead of a band. In a modified form, a similar device is shown arranged on a single shaft, the clutch serving to connect the shaft to a loose pulley thereon.
