Abstract

21,764. Whitaker, J. S., and Whitaker Bros. Sept. 20. Clutches, friction; gearing for stopping and starting machinery. - Relates to band friction clutches operated by the application of a brake. The clutch-band 5 is secured at one end 1<x> to the driving-wheel 1, and at the other end to a pivoted lever 6 provided with teeth 6<y> gearing with a pinion 7 secured to a brake-drum 7<x>. A brake-block 8 on a lever 8<x> is normally pressed into engagement with the drum 7<x> by a spring 9, so that the lever 6 is operated and tightens the clutch-band 5. Disengagement is effected by means of a cord 10 which removes the brake, the lever 6 being returned by a spring 11.
