Variable-speed gearing.-A change-speed gear for motor-cycles comprises the combination of a gear train which may be held by a brake band, and a multiple-plate friction clutch which locks the driving-sleeve directly to the hub. The belt pulley A is mounted upon a sleeve B, which carries a gear-wheel Q in gear with a pinion D upon a shaft parallel to the main sleeve and carried by a casing F. The pinion D is fixed to a pinion E, which engages a wheel K fixed to the hub shell G. Between the sleeve B and the hub shell is arranged a multiple-plate clutch, such as is described in Specification 28,490/07. When the clutch is in action, the hub is driven directly, and, when it is released and the casing F held by a band brake J, the hub is driven through the gear-wheels Q, D, E, K.
