15,105. Gibbs, J. E., and Sheppee, F. H. July 22. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Motor road vehicles, variable-speed gearing for. In the two-speed gearing shown in Fig. 2, a clutch member S, formed integral with a gear-wheel H, is keyed so as to slide on the driving-shaft C. The other member of the clutch is formed integral with a sprocket-wheel B, which carries a gear-wheel G and is loosely mounted on the shaft C. A sleeve K on a countershaft carries two wheels J, I adapted to gear with the wheels G, H respectively. In the position of the clutch S shown in Fig. 2, the wheel B is driven from the shaft C through the gear-wheels H, I, J, G ; when the clutch S is moved into engagement with the wheel B, the wheel is driven directly from the shaft C. Motion is transmitted to the driven shaft T through chain gearing. For more than two speeds, additional wheels are secured to the clutch S and sleeve K.
