Abstract

26,657. Argyll Motors, Ltd., and Govan, A. Dec. 21. Motor road vehicles.-Relates to variable-speed gearing of the type described in Specifications No. 5945, A.D. 1901, and No 27,422, A.D. 1902. The driving-shaft A and the driven sbaft B are in line, and a sleeve H, sliding on a squared portion of the shaft B, carries clutch teeth D<1> for the direct drive, a gear-wheel D for the intermediate speed through a pinion F sliding on a countershaft C, and clutch teeth E<1> for the low speed by way of a pinion P fixed to the counter, shaft. According to the present invention, a second pinion E is secured upon the sleeve H, and is adapted to engage a pinion G sliding with the pinion F to effect a second intermediate speed. An additional slot is formed in the guide-frame N, Fig. 4, for the operating-lever L so that that frame has two cruciform slots M. A separate lever L<1> effects the reverse as before.
