Clutches, claw and friction; o p e r a t i n g clutches. - In combined friction and claw clutches, the driven shaft a carries a fixed cone b and a slidable disk f with ratchet teeth g. A hand lever h engages a collar k on the shaft a and carries a pivoted pedal lever p which is linked to a forked wedge part r fitting between bearing rings s abutting against the collar k and disk f. For engagement, the lever h is moved over to engage the cone b with a drum c on the driving-shaft, and the lever p is lowered to force the wedge r between the rings s and press the teeth g into engagement with teeth on the drum c against the action of a spring t. The lever h may be eased slightly to disengage the cone clutch and leave the positive clutch in action, a notch n being suitably placed in the quadrant for this purpose. Return of the lever h disengages both clutches. The lever p is returned to its original position either manually or by arranging a cam in its path.
