Abstract
108,515. Vogel, H. B. Aug. 7, 1916. Clutches, friction and claw; operating clutches.- In combined friction-cone and positive clutches, the friction cone e turns with a sleeve f and is pressed by a spring m into engagement with the cone a. The clutch is operated by movement of the sleeve f, which permits engagement of the cone surfaces, further movement of the sleeve allowing pins g to engage segmental holes k in the part a under the influence of springs h. The pins may engage automatically or may, as shown, be controlled by a collar q. In order to ensure prior engagement of the friction surfaces, the lever r engaging the sleeve f is operated by a nut s' on the screw-shaft s, a projection w on the nut carrying with it a lever t, engaging the collar q, when the clutch is disengaged. The lever t is retained in the disengaged position by a releasable pawl u on the lever engaging a fixed ratchet v.
