Abstract

19,222. Green, W. Aug. 22. Clutches, claw, friction, and ratchet. - Relates to combined friction and claw or ratchet clutches for use on motor-bicycles &c. The friction cone 1 or plates or a disk for operating band clutches is slidably mounted on a sleeve 2, which itself slides on the shaft 4 and c a r r i e s teeth a d a p t e d to engage teeth 8 on the cone or other part 3. A bellcrank operating-lever 9 bears through springs on the cone 1, and carries an adjustable pin 10 engaging a hole in a second lever 6 which actuates the sleeve 2. When the lever 9 is depressed, the friction clutch is first engaged and then further movement operates the lever 6 and engages the claw clutch. A bell-crank lever 11 engages a hole in the lever 6, so that when the lever 9 is released, the friction clutch is disengaged by internal springs, but the claw clutch is locked by the lever 11. The claw teeth may have inclined faces to allow overrunning, a spring 6<b> being provided to allow of this. The lever 11 is disengaged by depression of a pin 11<a>, so that the claw or ratchet clutch is disengaged by a spring 6<a>.
