Abstract

191028,415. Jardine, E., and Watchorn, E. Dec. 18. Driving - mechanism.-Relates to clutches specially applicable to lace machines in which the clutch is kept positively in engagement during starting while during normal running the clutch will disengage under excessive load. The driving-disk E has semicircular peripheral notches E<1> in which engage circular studs D carried by slides C in the driven disk A, and kept in clutching position by springs G. Under excessive load the studs D leave the notches E<1>, which are then closed by pivoted covers. The starting rod P carries a stop P<1> adapted to engage a tumbler N on a lever M, which is connected to a spring-pressed lever K operating a lever J which bears on a sliding member H. During starting, the rod P moves the member H over the studs D so that they cannot be disengaged from the notches E<1>. When the rod reaches the end of its travel, the tumbler N is released and the member H is returned by the spring action.
