Abstract

536,507. Friction clutches. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. March 29, 1940, No. 5691. Convention date, April 3, 1939. [Class 80 (ii)] In a friction clutch driving engagement between a pressure plate 29 and a flywheel cover 11 is effected through the co-operation of indentations 59 in the cover 11 with notches 63 in the pressure plate 29, springs 69 located in the pressure plate serving to space the trailing co-operative faces 65 of the indentations 59 and notches 63. The clutch shown has a coned spring disc 31 engaging the pressure plate 29 at 33 and having fulcrum points 19, 49 on the cover. Movement of the spring 31 to engage and disengage the clutch is effected by fingers 40 connected to an abutment 45 engaged by a throw-out collar. Withdrawal of the pressure plate is ensured by springs 55. An oil baffle plate 57 is provided.
