1393968 Friction clutches LUK LAMELLEN UND KUPPLUNGSBAU GmbH 4 May 1972 [4 May 1971] 20883/72 Heading F2C In a diaphragm spring clutch a stop 8 (Fig. 2), 10, 11 (Fig. 3) serves to limit the axial movement of the presser plate 3, so that leaf springs 7 interconnecting presser plate 3 and clutch housing 2 are not damaged on removal of the clutch from the flywheel (not shown). In Fig. 2 a member 8, attached to the presser plate by a rivet 6 has a portion 8a which limits the axial movement of plate 3 when it contacts the outer periphery of the diaphragm spring la. The periphery of the spring 1 is supported at other parts of its periphery on part of the housing 2. In Fig. 2 the member 8 also has a portion 8b by way of which the spring assists the action of leaf springs 7 to disengage the clutch. Two alternative forms of stop means are shown in Fig. 3, each affixed to the housing 2, a rivet 10 whose head 10a limits (by projecting between tongues of spring 1) the movement of the spring (and so the presser plate) and an abutment 11 whose part 11a stops movement of the spring 1. Other embodiments are also described with rivets or screws attached to the presser plate whose heads perform as the abutment 8a of Fig. 2, or with an alternative arrangement of stop means on the housing. In each embodiment the presser plate is allowed to move axially to an extent corresponding to maximum wear of the friction linings.
