Abstract

1,165,998. Friction clutches. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. 17 Feb., 1967, No. 7590/67. Heading F2C. To reduce diaphragm spring fulcrum wear, in a motor-vehicle friction clutch wherein a driven disc 7 is clamped between a flywheel 1 and pressure plate 11 by a diaphragm spring 12, the spring is connected and fulcrummed at an intermediate diameter to a cover-plate 6 between an annular wire ring 15 and a pressed steel annulus 18 secured to the cover plate 6 by a number of spacer rivets 19, the diaphragm spring being radially located by at least three wear resistant collars 20 mounted on the spacer rivets 19. Additional collars may be mounted on the remaining spacer rivets, and the wire ring 15 replaced by another pressed steel annulus similar to 18. Further, the diaphragm spring finger tips may be coated with low friction material to reduce the radial oscillatory force, due to misaligned crank and gear-box shafts, to additionally reduce wear of the fulcrum members 15, 18 and collars 20.
