Abstract

1,262,672. Friction clutches. LUK LAMELLEN-UND KUPPLUNGSBAU G.m.b.H. 4 July, 1969 [6 July, 1968], No. 33912/69. Heading F2C. In a friction clutch having a driven plate 9 clamped between a driving flywheel 1 and a presser plate 7 by a diaphragm spring 8 fulcrumed between abutment rings 10, 11 connected to a clutch cover 3, one of the abutment rings 10 or 11 is spring pressed into engagement with the diaphragm spring 8 to reduce wear. In Fig. 1 the abutment ring 10 is formed by a circular ridge bent out of the clutch cover 3 whilst the abutment ring 11 is formed on the outer periphery of a plate spring 16 which reacts against the heads 17 of rivets 12 connected to the clutch cover 3. In Fig. 3 (not shown) the abutment ring adjacent the clutch cover 3 is formed by a wire ring engaging a recess in the clutch cover. In Fig. 4 (not shown) both abutment rings are formed by wire rings and the abutment ring remote from the cover is pressed by a plate spring into engagement with the diaphragm spring. In Fig. 5 the abutment rings 10a, 11b are formed by a wire ring engaging a recess in the cover and by a rounded surface on the outer periphery of a rigid plate 21 which is urged by Belleville springs 22 surrounding each rivet 12 into engagement with the diaphragm spring 8. In Fig. 6 (not shown) the abutment ring remote from the clutch cover is formed by a wire ring interposed between the rigid plate and diaphragm spring. In Fig. 7 (not shown) the diaphragm spring is arranged outside the clutch cover. The force of the spring urging the abutment ring into engagement with the diaphragm spring is preferably greater than the reaction force of the diaphragm spring on the abutment ring. The presser plate 7 is connected to the cover 3 for rotation therewith by U-shaped resilient metal straps 4.
