Abstract

8398. Stratton, J., and Claremont, E. A. April 15. Clutches.-Relates to means for disengaging clutches in which the operating-mechanism is actuated by the driven part of the clutch. A shaft E carries levers L for operating the sliding collar C, which is shown as actuating the friction segments B secured to the driving-shaft B<1>. A hand-lever E<1> is employed to rotate the shaft E and put the clutch in action. For disengagement, a bell-crank lever G, loose on the shaft E, is moved by a rope M into position to be engaged by projections K on the driven casing A. The lever is thereby lifted so that a pawl H, carried by one arm of the lever, and kept in position by a spring J, engages and rotates a ratchet-wheel F fixed to the shaft E, and disengages the clutch.
