26,993. Lehmann, E. Nov. 27,1905, [date applied for under Patents Act, 1901]. Clutches.-In a combined segmental friction and positive clutch, segments c are carried by arms b on the driven shaft a, and are expanded to engage a drum d on the driving-shaft by well-known means, such as double screws put into engagement by moving a sleeve e to the left. Pivoted on the segment c are levers l adapted to engage teeth k on the drum d, and operated from a pedal shaft y by levers r, r' and rods p. The clutch is engaged by a spring f bearing on the sleeve e. To disengage, a pedal i is pressed, withdrawing the sleeve e and segments c by levers h and rods g. A lever s on the shaft x at the same time engages a lever t on the shaft y, thus putting the levers lout of engagement with the teeth k. Play in the rods g permits the levers to be disengaged before the segments.
