6840. Gruca, P. March 21. Clutches.-In segmental friction clutches, a driving - pulley 32, Fig. 1, carries pivoted levers 9 adapted to engage a groove 5 in a disk 3 on the shaft 1. Nuts in the lever ends are engaged by screwed rods 12, which carry bevel-pinions 14 engaged by a loose bevel-wheel 15 which may be coupled to the shaft 1 to operate the clutch by a clutch-piece 17 operated by levers 19,20,21,22,23,24. When the clutch-piece 17 is withdrawn, the end 27 of the lever 22 engages a recess 28 in the wheel 15 and holds it stationary so that the clutch disengages itself. As shown in Fig. 4, the levers 9 may be operated in pairs by rods 12 which carry worm-wheels 31 engaging worms on spindles 30 driven through bevel-wheels 29 by the wheel 15.
