Link - w o rk ; clutches ; shaft couplings.-Relates to a combination of link-work, clutches, and brakes for ob - taining a forward drive, free position, and reverse drive between two shafts. Upon two shafts 1, 2, Fig. 1, are secured crank disks 3, 4, sliding in which are pistons 5, 6, on which bears a ball-ended link 7 pivoted on a pin 8 secured in a casing 9 loosely journaled on the shafts. The pistons may be adapted to revolve in the disks, or the link 7 may be made in two sliding parts. A hand-lever 17 operates brake blocks 10, 11, through levers 13, 14, Fig. 2, and a wedge piece 15, so that the casing 9 is held stationary, in which case the link 7 slides along the pin 8 and at the same time swings so as to produce the reverse movement. When the lever 17 is moved to release the brakes, it operates a bevel-ended rod 25 which presses out pieces 23, 20, 21 and clutches the band 19 to the casing 9, in which case the two shafts are locked together. A loose lever 26 fitting a slot in the piece 23 prevents centrifugal force from putting the clutch in action. When all the parts are freed, the driven shaft remains stationary, the casing turning at half the speed of the driving- shaft.
