Clutches, friction; gearing for stopping and starting machinery.-In conical clutches, particularly applicable to motor-cycles, a loose pulley 1 engages on one side with a plate 3 secured to the engine shaft, and on the other with a movable cone 4 normally kept in engagement by a spring 2. Disengagement is produced by a Bowden mechanism connected to a fixed lever 13 and to a lever 12 connected to a cam 8 engaging with a fixed cam 7. The cam 8 bears through a ball-bearing 10 on a cover-plate 11 secured to the cone 4.
