Abstract

111,759. Triumph Cycle Co., and Stanley, G. E. Feb. 10, 1917. Turning-gear.-In a kick starter for motorcycles, the ratchet clutch member E is provided with oppositely inclined cam surfaces L adapted to engage cam surfaces M on an adjacent rigid stationary member B, and to withdraw the clutch, when the clutch member has rotated through an arc in either direction. The member E is slidable on keys G on the starter shaft H and is pressed into engagement with clutch teeth on the spur gear A by a spring I. The usual spring, which normally holds the pedal F in starting position, causes the clutch member E to be normally held out of engagement.
