Abstract
124,226. Holt, J. E., and Harpham, W. July 30, 1917. Clutches, claw; clutches, friction; operating clutches.-Relates to a combined friction and positive clutch for motorvehicles, aeroplanes, motor-boats, &c., of the type wherein the friction clutch must be in engagement before the positive clutch, and the friction clutch when disengaged disconnects the positive clutch. The friction member 1, to which is attached the positive member 3, may be secured to the driving-shaft A by a coiled spring 3<c>, end the friction member 2 is movable on the positive member 4, which is slid able on the driven shaft B. The member 2 is pressed into engagement by an internal spring 2<c> bearing on the shaft collar B<1> and a cap 2a attached to the member 2, and the member 4 is pressed out of engagement by an internal spring 4<b>. Pedals C<1>, D<1>, acting through rocking-shafts C, D and link-work connected by pins and slots, are provided to withdraw the member 2 and advance the member 4. A pawl H engaging a rack locks the pedal levers in the depressed position. The member 3 is provided with radial rol!ers 3<a> adapted to engage the teeth 4<a> of the member 4.
