Abstract
308,235. Coil Clutch Co., Ltd., and Douglas, G. G. Dec. 20, 1927. Catches, friction.-The tail 9 of a contracting clutch coil 6, adapted to grip a driven sleeve 4, is positively moved for both engagement and disengagement by a cam path 15 formed between a tapered pin 13 and an inclined finger 14 carried on a slidable control disc 11. A peg 17, projecting from a housing 12 secured to the driving- drum 3, coacts with a like cam path 16 between the pin 13 and a second inclined finger 14', so that the parts 9, 17 are drawn together to release the clutch and separated to engage it by movement of the disc 11. The head 7 of the coil 6 is retained by a screw 8 in a notch in the drum 3, which has ribs 5 coacting with welded or other bosses 21 on the'coil to ensure uniform expansion thereof. The flanges 18, 19 of the parts 3, 12 have differentially-spaced bolt-holes, in order to provide adjustable initial torsion in the coil.
