Abstract
641,161. Clutches. LAMBERT BRAKE CORPORATION. May 31, 1945, No. 13715. Convention date, Oct. 30, 1944. [Class 80(ii)] The pressure plate 22 of a friction clutch is carried by arms 20 extending from a plate 19 which is acted upon by springs 25 between it and the back plate 16. The plate 16 is carried on arms 14" from a plate 14 secured to the driven shaft 2. Discs 13 secured to the driving shaft 1 are alternately arranged between the pressure plate 22, an intermediate plate 23 and the back plate 16, the actuation to release the clutch being by rotation of a disc 33 by a clutch lever (not shown) which effects through a ball cam device 42, 44, 44<SP>1</SP> an axial movement of a thrust sleeve 29. After initial engagement of the plates by the springs 25 the pressure is increased by balls 26 acting on cam tracks 28, 28<SP>1</SP>. Adjustment is effected by relative rotation of the thrust sleeve 29 to the actuating disc 33 allowed by disengaging screws 35 engaging teeth 36. The housing 5 constitutes an oil bath for the clutch to reduce wear and the generation of heat. A toggle mechanism is described as an alternative to the cam actuating mechanism 42, 44, 44<SP>1</SP>.
