Abstract

166,326. Watson, G. W., and Ludlow, N. B. April 9, 1920. Disc wheels. - In wheels of the kind comprising two oppositely dished discs 1 formed integrally with rim parts 2 and provided with a band 19 encircling both the wheel parts as described in Specification 28051/06, the discs are held in contact with each other near their outer circumference as shown at 5 and diverge towards the centre. The discs are secured together at their contacting parts by bolts 17, which may be permanently attached to one disc, and nut 18. Near the centre they are held together in spaced relation by bolts 8 and nuts 9 in conjunction with sleeves 16 which bear on the opposing faces of the discs. The bolt holes in the discs are flanged inwardly and the sleeves are formed with flared ends to accommodate the flanges, the central part being an easy fit on the bolts. The band 19 may rest in a groove formed by providing a step 3 in each of the rim parts or may be shaped to fit in the crease between the rim parts. The valve stem is accommodated in a tubular boss 20 provided on the band. The discs at this part are each cut away to form an aperture 21, the edges of which are turned in so as to lie in contact when the wheel is assembled. The wheel is detachably secured to the hub by the bolts and nuts 8, 9, the bolt being flanged at 11 and provided with threaded extensions 14 to take the nuts 15.
