May 12, 1919. wheels with non-supporting casings enclosing spokes.-Disks B for enclosing the spokes of a wheel are secured by two washers A disposed centrally of the disks and having means for drawing them together either directly or indirectly. In one construction, Fig. 1, the means for drawing the washers together consist of a series of axially-arranged bolts C, which may pass through holes in the disks B or inside an enlarged central aperture in each disk. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 4, a flanged ring H is secured against each side of the wheel by bolts H<3>, and the disks B and washers A are secured by nuts J screwed on the ring H, preferably with an interrupted thread. Fig. 5 shows another arrangement in which the outer disk B<5> and washer A<7> are attached by screws C<2> to a plate A<6> held to the outside of the wheel bv axial bolts C connecting it to the inner disk and washer. When the disks are to be applied to wheels having attachments such as sprocket-wheels, the central apertures of the disks and washers are enlarged to pass over these, and ring plates are permanently attached to the spokes so as to close the apertures. The disks are preferably dished to a greater degree than the spokes, so as to be drawn tightly against the rim or spokes, and recesses are provided to accommodate the spoke nipples and valve stems.
