Abstract

178,999. Meads, A. W. Feb. 19, 1921. Non-supporting discs enclosing spokes.-The disc on the side of the wheel on which a brake or belt ring is attached is modified to allow such attachment. In one construction, the disc is formed in two annular parts 1, 7. The part 1 is held in position by means such as transverse bolts 6 connecting it to the outer disc 2, and is shaped at its outer edge to conform to the shape of the ring 3. The outer part 7 may be secured by screws 19 passing through the nipples of the spokes that connect the ring 3 to the rim. In another construction, the disc is made in one piece and is provided with a series of holes through which project the inner ends of the spokes supporting the ring 3. The discs may be stiffened by annular ribs and recesses or by attached metal rings, and may be dished, the dishing on the central parts of the discs being steeper than on the outer parts.
