Abstract

163,630. Anderson, W. H. March 19, 1920. Spray carburettors. - In a multiple-jet carburettor in which the main air inlet is controlled simultaneously with the supply of rich mixture, the supply of primary air to each jet is independently regulated. As shown in Fig. 1, a block 52 carries two jet tubes 60, 61 fed from the well 70. Air enters the annular chambers surrounding these tubes from gauze-covered inlets 72 through vertical and horizontal passages 73, 75; there is a separate inlet for each jet and the inlets have a valve for controlling the amount of air. The air enters mixing-tubes 78 and mixture issues through inclined outlets 64, 65 in the block 52; these outlets are at different levels and are controlled by the conical plug 80, which also acts as the main air valve. Rich mixture for starting passes .from one of the mixture tubes to the nozzle 56 when the plug 80 is on its seat. The jet tubes and the block 52 are held in place by screwing. or nuts so as to be readily taken apart for cleaning. In a modification, a block such as the block 52 is provided with three jet tubes opened up in sequence by a conical air valve. The conical valve may be controlled simultaneously with a mixture throttle valve.
