Vacuum apparatus.-In a apparatus for raising liquids, of the kind in which the interior of a chamber having an inlet and outlet for the liquid is alternately subjected to suction and atmospheric pressure, the suction and atmospheric connections are controlled by a, piston valve A provided with a perforation A<1> connecting the interior of the chamber to a groove A<2> in the piston. The valve is operated by a float M, which, in the raised position, puts the channel A<2> into communication with the atmosphere, and in the lower position brings it into register with the suction port C. The float operates also the valve B controlling the flow of liquid from the chamber to a lower chamber N open to the atmosphere through a pipe I. The valve B is of smaller area than the valve A, so that the float operates the valve A with a snap action. The end of the inlet pipe E is submerged in the liquid and the outlet pipe enters a cup H always full of liquid.
