Abstract

660,255. Vacuum apparatus for raising sludge. TOLLEFSEN, G. R. Nov. 12, 1947 [Aug. 30, 1946], No. 30169/47. Class 102 (ii). In apparatus for removing sludge from oil tanks, a pipe 4 has a nozzle 24 provided with air intakes 25 and is connected to a receptacle 2 that is maintained under vacuum by a pump 8 and in which the sludge is removed by a pump 6. The inlet 10 of the pump 6 is connected to a space within the receptacle confined by a baffle 11 and a perforated plate 12. The vacuum in the receptacle 2 is controlled by an outwardly opening valve 21 actuated by a float 14 to admit atmosphere.
