Abstract

727,459. Filtering liquids. SMITH, R. A. G., and HOREMAN, T. J. Nov. 12, 1953, No. 31373/53. Class 46. [Also in Group XXVIII] Apparatus for removing sediment from the bottom of a tank e.g. an aquarium comprises a compressed air tube 10 connected near the lower end of a sludge lift tube 11 having its upper end connected at a point 17 near the lower filter covered end of an imperforate water container 15 which extends upwardly for a considerable distance to an upper open end. The sludge passes through a convergent intake nozzle 13 and on entering the container 15 gravitates into the filter bag 18, the lower end of which is held closed by a rigid rod 19 and a split tube 20.
