Abstract
169,201. Marks, E. C. R., (Worthington Pump & Machinery Corporation). May 19, 1920. Single-acting bucket pumps; clearance, reducing; suction reservoirs; valves, arrangement of. - A vacuum pump for condensers comprises a cylinder 12 provided with downwardly - opening inlet valves 14 at the top between an inlet chamber and the cylinder, and discharge valves 23 at the bottom. The piston has downwardly-opening valves 17 for the passage of the fluid from the upper to the lower end of the cylinder and clearance is reduced by providing projections 20 on the lower end of the cylinder to enter the transfer passage 18 in the piston. A channel 21 allows water to drain to the valves 23. The projections 20 mav be arranged on the upper end of the cylinder and the valves 17 on the lower face of the piston. The valves 14 may be of the kind described in Specification 19609/10, [Class 135, Valves &c.]. Specification 18643/00 [Class 8, Air and gases, Compressing &c.], also is referred to.
