Surface carburettors.-A carburettor for use with internal-combustion engines comprises a container 1 formed of a plurality of compartments 2, 3, 4, the compartment 2 serving as a liquid fuel reservoir in communication with the main storage tank, the other compartments acting as trap chambers to prevent any unvaporized fuel from passing from the carburettor to the engine. Air is supplied to the chamber 2 by a pipe 8, and after bubbling through the fuel passes to the engine by way of pipes 11, 12, 13, any unvaporized fuel in the mixture being trapped in the compartments 3. 4. The level of liquid fuel in the chamber 2 may be maintained by any means and a diaphragm 6 is fitted at an angle in this chamber to aid the trap chambers and prevent splashing. In a modification, shown in Fig. 3, the pipes 11. 12 are dispensed with and an additional compartment 22 for containing the main fuel supply is formed integral with the container 1. Air is admitted through an inlet 25, while a secondary air inlet 30 may be fitted on the fuel container 2. The usual relief and back pressure valves are arranged in the induction pipe to the engine to obviate the danger of back-fire.
