Abstract

339,038. Matthews, C. M. Oct. 3, 1929. Surface carburettors.-Air is bubbled through a light lubricating oil in a tank 1, and petrol in a tank 7, and the resulting mixture is drawn into the engine through a receiver 18, and a chamber 20 containing adjustable non-return valves 21, 24 which close and open respectivelyon a back-fire. The tanks 1, 7 contain perforated conical anti-splash plates 5, 14. and the air supply is regulated by a sleeve valve 9 which is adjusted by a Bowden wire 10 to cover orifices 8 in the end of the air pipe connecting the two chambers. Filler pipes 4, 15 and drain plugs 6, 16 are provided, but the liquid levels may be controlled by float-actuated valves.
