Abstract

182,463. Nattrass, H. July 1. 1921, [Convention date]. Surface carburettors.-A carburettor for use in connection with internal-combustion engines comprises a petrol tank 1, an air admission pipe 5 having a wire gauze cover 35 and a tubular arm 12 provided with perforations 16 pivoted thereto, and an outlet pipe 28 leading to the manifold of the engine. The end 13 of the arm 12 is fitted with an adjustable float 14 which allows the incoming air passing through the perforations 16 to be evenly diffused through the petrol in the tank, and the induction pipe 28 is provided with a non- return valve 30 and a relief valve 31 to prevent back-fire from reaching the carburettor. A supplementary supply of air may be admitted to the tank 1 through a valve 18, and a perforated baffleplate 25 may be provided at the outlet of the carburettor to prevent unvaporized fuel passing to the engine.
