Abstract

280,393. Mugleston, R. L. Dec. 23, 1926. Stop-gear.-Apparatus for stopping an internalcombustion engine when the fuel reaches a predetermined level in the fuel tank comprises a vessel A to which fuel is normally supplied by a pipe D inside the vessel A which extends almost to the bottom; the fuel flows through a connection C to the carburettor. The outflow of the tank is connected to a union G and the bottom of the tank is arranged at the level indicated at L so that when the liquid level has fallen to the level of the top of the vessel A, which is connected to atmosphere by a pipe R, an air lock occurs and the fuel supply stops. A two-way tap F is then turned to enable the remaining fuel to enter the vessel A by a direct pipe E. According to a modification the piping D is replaced by a passage inside the vessel, and the two-way tap F by a needle valve which normally closes a connection to the bottom of the vessel.
